One Week Game - Roguelike
I was a lot shorter on time this week, I would say that all up I had about 1 day to work on this.
This time I was tackling a roguelike game. I thought it would be easy, I couldn’t be more wrong. Admittedly, I did re-write the whole thing from scratch 3 times.
The thing I learnt from working on this is that you need to plan for the big picture. Originally I started with a single room, which was great, until I needed to add more rooms, at which point I was royally screwed.
The game didn’t get to a playable state. The monsters will follow you around and that’s about it.
- Randomly spawning creatures
- Generates new rooms on the fly and keeps track of the relationships to one another in an array. That is; What rooms the current room connects to
- Independent canvas for background, foreground and interface. The plan for this was to have less re-draws and to have the foreground animated
- Might develop this game further
